Have you considered a Digital Detox? I don’t know about you, but I sure do feel like the world has become very noisy! If you had to look back 10 years, we were limited to the amount of information that was fed to us & the form it was in. Now, we know about news that happened on the opposite side of the world within minutes of it happening. It doesn’t end there, the same story will be force-fed to us. Pushed in our faces on every social platform, news stations and radio. It’s not often I come across friends in conversation who haven’t heard the latest news or celeb goss (like we all know about the Brangelina drama at the moment!).
I recently had the realisation that I have control over what I choose to be influenced by. In this “noise” that I’m talking about there is quite a large portion of rubbish! So I’ve decided to take this December holiday to “Digital Detox”. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, Digital Detoxing is basically taking some time out from using electronic devices. Switching off from the online world. Digital Detoxing can be a chance to chill out & bring those stress levels down. Also just focus on a real social interaction in the PHYSICAL world. I’ll also be doing a complete clean out of all social platforms by hiding things that don’t feed my soul in a positive way. If the content I’m exposed to doesn’t Entertain, Educate, Inform, Inspire or Engage me…it’s out! (Thanks Anzel Van Biljon for that)
It’s so easy to be sucked into the online realm that it distracts us from the real people and relationships in our lives and we can often take for granted the life we have when we are busy comparing Instagram feeds of someone else’s life. I’d like to encourage YOU to also take some time out every now and again and just enjoy the moment and experience it with your whole self…and not worry about what filter will make you look good! Remember the feeling you have rather than the short lived cleaver caption you came up with!
